Burning

a. The Burning Monk video and the self-burning of Mohamed Bouazizi are the same because both of them involve a man using gasoline to set himself on fire to get a point across, the monk wanted to practice Buddhism, but it wasn't allowed in Vietnam so he set himself on fire, and Bouazizi just wanted to get his scale back so in protest he set himself on fire. The difference between the two are one happened because he couldn't practice the religion he wanted to, and the other involves protesting against the government of his country.

b. I feel what they did was right, but also a bit too implusive.

OPTION 1/Literary Analysis of WWI.

1. My person is Theodore Roosevelt. Theodore Roosevelt also known as Teddy Roosevelt was the 26th President of the United States. Taken from a speech Roosevelt gave in Paris in 1910, this poetic inspiring verse, "In the Arena" is a favorite among many. 3. Theodore Roosevelt is related to the poem "In the Arena" because for one thing he wrote the poem. Also, this poem is based on a speech that he gave in 1910. Another reason why this poem is related to Roosevelt is because he is known for his energetic personality which is just like the line "Who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause"(Stanza 2 Line 4 & 5). Lastly, like the line "Who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement"(Stanza 2 Line 6 & 7) Teddy is also known for his range of interests and achievements.

The White Man's Burden & Imperialism

1) I think what Kipling means by "the White Man's burden" is that no matter what your skin color, whether your black or white, there's always some kind of burden that everyone has to take with them.

2) I think Kipling does justify imperialism because in this poem he talks about how people should have patience to do whatever they please which is a big part of imperialism.

3) It would be appealing because if anyone ever felt upset with themselves they could read this poem to make them feel better.

How did I feel during planning this presentation? Why did I feel this way?

A. During the planning I felt fine, I knew what to do and I knew where to find the information.

How did I feel prior to presenting? Why did I feel this way?

A. During the presentation I felt kind of nervous because I was scared that I would mess up or have technical difficulties.

How did I feel while I was presenting? Why did I feel this way?

A. While I was presenting I still felt nervous because I thought I would mess up and because I thought I would, I did mess up.

What did I personally do well?

A. Thought I did well on speaking loudly and had good eye contact

What did not go as desired in this presentation?

A. I didn’t know what to say for some parts, and sometimes I mumbled instead of speaking clearly.

On a scale from 1-10, how well do I think I understood the content? Explain.

A. I would give myself a 9 because I already knew stuff on slaves and I already knew what happened after slaves were freed.

How do I think my group members perceived me? Why do I think this?

A. I think my group perceived me as someone who takes a little bit longer than most to get her work done. I think this because for the slides that I had to do I finally got them done 2 days after Blair had said she wanted them.

How do I think the 8th graders perceived me? Why do I think this?

A. I think the 8th graders perceived me as nervous because during the presentation I was so nervous that I barely knew what to say.

Knowing that I can only control how I act and react, if I could do this presentation again, what would I change about my actions to make it a more ideal experience?

A. I would make cue cards so this way I would know what to say instead of fumbling for the right word.

What are my strengths in groups?

A. My strengths are probably finding pictures and information.

What areas do I need improvement?

A. The areas I need to improve on would be animation.

What is the most important thing I learned about myself? Why is this so important?

A. The most important thing I learned about myself is that if I don’t write down what I’m going to say and don’t practice then I won’t do as well as I want to or as well as I need to.

Are there any other things that I need to express?

A. None that I can think of.

Reflective Blog Entry

1. This year I've grown because I've learned how to handle stress calmly. Also, I’m not as emotional as I used be.

2. I’m proud of the teachers I have and the people I’m with. In the dlc I have friends I can talk to and do projects with, and I have teachers that are kind and helpful.

3. The thing that I found challenging was doing a project that involved animation because I’m not that good at animation. I mean I can do the basic things, but I don’t really know how to do the really cool, professional effects.

4.My favorite project was probably the brochure because I found it easy and fun. It wasn’t that hard to find the information, and I liked putting in the pictures.

5. For 2nd Semester I hope to do a little better in Writing and I hope to learn some of the really cool, professional effects.
